Empire Life Insurance has recently hired a team of money management professionals from CIBC Asset Management:
• Gaelen Morphet has been appointed Chief Investment Officer. Gaelen was First Vice-President, Canadian Equities at CIBC.
• Lieh Wang will be joining as Senior Portfolio Manager. Lieh was previously Vice-President, Canadian Equities.
• Nessim Mansoor will join as Portfolio Manager. Nessim was most recently Assistant Vice-President, Canadian Equities.

Peter Slan has been appointed Senior Vice-President, Investor Relations at Scotia Capital. Peter was most recently Managing Director, Equity Capital Markets.

Scotia Capital has also announced that Jim Morris will join as Managing Director & Head of U.S. Cash Equity Trading in New York. Jim was previously a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs.

Aaron Bilkoski has recently joined TD Securities in Calgary as a Research Associate, Oil & Gas. Previously, Aaron was a Research Associate, Oil & Gas at Salman Partners.

UBS Wealth Management has announced that Robert McCann will join as CEO of UBS Wealth Management Americas and will assume responsibility for the firm's domestic wealth management businesses in Canada and the U.S. Robert was, most recently, Vice Chairman and President of Global Wealth Management at Merrill Lynch. Wolfgang Harder has also been promoted as Regional Head for British Columbia. Wolfgang was a founding member of the UBS KeyClient Group in Canada and was previously a Senior Private Wealth Adviser.

Doug Mahaffy has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the CPPIB. Doug will retire in March 2010 as Chairman of McLean Budden.

Jim Gilliland has recently joined Vancouver based Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel as Head of Fixed Income. Jim was most recently at Barclays Global Investors in San Francisco as Head of North American Fixed Income & Head of International Fixed Income.

Laurentian Bank Securities hired Mining Analyst Ovais Habib from Northern Securities.

Calgary based First Energy Capital is pleased to announce the official opening of its office in London, England. Managing Director, Hugh Sanderson has recently moved to London to help lead their new operations.

Byron Capital Markets have made the following hires:
• Drew Clark will be joining as a Mining Analyst. Previously, Drew was an Analyst at Neilas.
• Energy Analyst Guy Gordon will be joining from Toll Cross Securities.

Sonny Aggarwal has recently joined Picton Mahoney Asset Management as a Research Analyst covering U.S. equities. He was previously at CIBC Asset Management as a Senior Analyst.

GrowthWorks Capital's President and CEO, David Levi, will become the President and CEO of the newly formed Matrix Asset Management which has been formed by the merger of GrowthWorks Capital and Seamark Asset Management.

Bernard Augustin has recently joined Addenda Capital as Portfolio Manager, LDI and Manager, Quantitative Research. Previously, Bernard was First Vice-President, Public Market Investments at PSP Investments.

PSP Investments has recently hired Feriel Feghoul as an Analyst, Infrastructure Investments in Montréal. Feriel was most recently an Investment Banking Analyst at National Bank Financial.

Focus Asset Management is pleased to announce the recent addition of Andrew Hobbs as Vice-President. Andrew was previously with Harbour Capital Management.

Jonathan Goldberg has joined Wellington West Capital Markets as an Investment Banking Associate. Jonathan is a recent MBA graduate from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

BMO Capital Markets have made the following hires in New York:
• Sean Mackenzie will be joining as the new Head of Program and Electronic trading. Most recently, Sean was on the equity trading desk at RBC Dominion Securities.
• Veteran Merrill Lynch Trader William Bertsch will head up a U.S. stock trading desk and will also continue focusing on trading in the energy sector.

It seems like only yesterday...today we welcome two fabulous additions to the Vlaad and Company team. Leah McGillivray, who will add depth to our research team and in executing entry level searches. And, most recently from Korn/Ferry International, seasoned executive search professional Amy Wilson has come on board to help with senior and C-suite mandates.

Brian Imrie joined KPMG Canada as a Partner and Senior VP & Director of KPMG Corporate Finance. Brian will focus on M&A advisory, mining/metals in Canada and globally, and augment KPMG's cross-border M&A team. Previously, he was with National Bank Financial as Managing Director and Co-Head, Mergers and Acquisitions.

BMO Capital Markets has announced the establishment of a Global Debt Capital Markets group. Colleen Campbell has been appointed Executive Managing Director and Head of the group. Neil Mohammed will take over Colleen's role on the Canadian Investment & Corporate Banking management committee and will now assume overall responsibility for Canadian Debt Capital Markets corporate coverage. Jim Halliday (Head of Canadian Syndication), Grant Williams (Head of Canadian Government Finance), David Pennington (Head of Canadian Infrastructure Advisory), Jim Moglia (Group Head, U.S. Debt Capital Markets), and Lyle McCoy (Head of Public Finance, Capital Markets Fixed Income) will all report to Colleen.

Beringer Capital is pleased to announce that Josef Prosperi and Michael Sifton have joined the firm as Managing Partners. Josef was previously a Director at Teachers' Private Capital, the private equity division of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board. Michael was previously the President & CEO of Sun Media.

Andrea Rudnick has joined IESI-BFC as Vice President, Corporate Development and Communications. Andrea, a former investment banker, was most recently with DundeeWealth.

Patrick Bellmore has recently joined the Institutional Equity Sales desk at Salman Partners. Patrick was, most recently, at M Partners on their Equity Sales desk.

Amr Ezzat has recently joined Montrusco Bolton in Montréal as an Investment Analyst covering Energy and Materials. Most recently, Amr was an Analyst at RBC Capital Markets' Global Investment Banking division.

Martin Pelletier and Craig Stanford have founded TriVest Wealth Counsel as Managing Director, Portfolio Managers. Previously, Martin was an Investment Banking Consultant with Peterson Capital Corp and Craig was at Brickburn Asset Management as Managing Director, Portfolio Manager.

Rob Gill has joined Macquarie - Investment Products Business which is part of the Banking Financial Services Group as a Vice President of Product. Previously, Rob was with Dundee Securities.

Adding to a previous announcement, Carole Chehowah will be joining the BMO Capital Markets European Sales and Trading Team as a Director. Previously, Carole was at UBS Securities.

Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec has announced the appointment of Roland Lescure as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer. Most recently, Roland was at Groupama Asset Management as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer.

Rene Leduc will be joining the Business Development Bank of Canada as Vice President, Business Restructuring. Most recently, Rene was a Partner at Deloitte.

Seema Sindwani is joining Laurentian Bank Securities' Institutional Equity Sales desk in Toronto. Previously, Seema was with Northern Securities.

Steve Dick, previously with AON Consulting has joined JonesTrading Canada as an Institutional Sales Trader.

Anthony Hu will be joining Canaccord Adams as an Investment Banking Analyst. Anthony recently graduated from Sauder School of Business, UBC.

CIBC Mellon has announced the appointment of Thomas Monahan as President and Chief Executive Officer of both CIBC Mellon Global Securities Services and CIBC Mellon Trust. Currently, Thomas is Head of CIBC Wood Gundy and Chairman and CEO of CIBC Investor Services. He will join CIBC Mellon November 2, 2009. Mr. Monahan succeeds Thomas MacMillan who will become Chair of CIBC Mellon's Board of Directors.

Invesco Trimark has announced hires of Michael Hatcher and Jeff Feng as Vice Presidents to its Trimark Global Equities Team. Previously, both Michael and Jeff were at Burgundy Asset Management.

Thys Terblanche will be joining CIBC in Toronto as Managing Director, Mining, Investment Banking. Most recently, Thys was the Global Head, Mining & Metals at Standard Bank based in London.

In an internal CIBC move, David Cobbold, currently Managing Director, Equity Capital Markets will also be joining the Mining, Investment Banking Team.

Gluskin Sheff & Associates has hired David Vankka as Vice President, Risk Management. Previously, David was at Tristone Capital as Managing Director, Institutional Sales & Trading.

Canaccord Adams has hired David Chapman as Director to their Institutional Sales Team. Most recently, David was Managing Director, Institutional Equities at CIBC.

Grant Bunker has joined Aurion Capital Management as Vice President, Business Development. Most recently, Grant was at Creststreet Capital as Vice President, Business Development & Investment Management.

The international arm of RBC Wealth Management has appointed Matthew Yong as President and Frank Mu as Chief Executive Officer of its Asian operations (RBC Wealth Management, Asia).

Mark Shulgan has joined CPP Investment Board as a Portfolio Manager in their Relationship Investments Group. Most recently, Mark was a Vice President at Fortress Investment Group.

Dave Mason will assume the role of President of Equicom Group effective October 31, 2009. Dave was most recently Head of Investor Relations at Equicom.

Paradigm Capital has hired Jeff Wolly as a Base Metals Analyst. Previously, Jeff was at Selective Asset Management as a Money Manager.

At TD Securities, Associate Amr Elgwaily will be transferring from the Investment Banking, Mergers & Acquisitions group to the TD Securities team in New York.

Associate David Caputo will be transferring to New York to join the US Leverage Finance group with RBC Capital Markets. Previously, David was in the Equity Capital Markets group in Toronto.

Investment Banker, Hashem Aboulhosn is joining VanEdge Capital focusing on Interactive Entertainment and Digital Media Businesses. Previously, Hashem was at RBC Capital Markets.

Northern Trust has appointed David Lester, Head of Institutional Sales for Asset Management. Previously, David was at SEI Investments.

Adam Seanor has joined D&D Securities as an Institutional Equity Salesman. Previously, Adam was at Clarus Securities as a Research Analyst.

Cormark Securities has hired Allan Berg as an Analyst, Investment Banking. Most recently, Allan was an Analyst at Tristone Capital.

Deborah Frame was appointed Vice President, Investments and Chief Compliance Officer at Cougar Global Investments. Previously, Deborah was Chief Investment Officer at Empire Life.

Forbes & Manhattan Asset Management has appointed Raiero Corsini as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Managing Partners, Darren Gottlieb and Mark Tredgett have founded an alternative asset management company called Vantage Asset Management.
