The days of mass mailing a resume are long gone. However, a modified version of this old method can still be used. Traditionally, job searchers would mass mail resumes to HR individuals and/or HR departments. This is no longer effective. Quantitative marketing requires research and a strategy. It involves researching organizations in your target market, identifying the key decision-maker for your profession/area and then sending out a resume with a customized letter introducing yourself. To generate activity, gather a large list of names, and send customized letters.
Following up is key and should aim for three things: increased visibility; a networking meeting; and ultimately, an interview.
