So here is a mystery wrapped in a puzzle: many industries struggle with gender bias, Capital Markets included. Engineering, technology, and even cartoonists all have difficulties attracting and retaining women in their respective industries. Yet last year, 50% of the roles Vlaad & Company filled in Private Equity were with women. Did we sugar coat the list of candidates? Bias the interviewers? Stack the deck? Did we find the magic potion? Nope, not at all. Strong candidates came forward, we presented the best and the clients hired the best – 50% of which were women.
We may not have found the magic potion but I will offer up that perhaps some in Private Equity have been paying attention: they’ve absorbed the stats showing the premium in ROI when women are involved in investment decisions.
