Controlling the Interview

Acing the interview has a great deal to do with control. No one is perfect at everything - we all have weaknesses. As long as a weakness is not a pothole on the interview road, the strategy that I recommend is to identify that weakness early, in a manner that you would like.

Address it and move on. For instance, for some people financial modeling is a weakness. If addressed early in an interview, you have an opportunity to say how you are working on improving. And then, move on to how you can help solve their hiring need. Maybe they won’t ask you anything further about it, but bringing it up early manages risk. However, don’t oversell yourself or your weakness might creep back and bite you on the butt.
