Head, Institutional Equity Sales

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Head of Institutional Sales who is a passionate, open-minded leader and mentor, for its Toronto headquarters. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Institutional Sales will be responsible for leading, growing and mentoring an established sales team with staff in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. The ideal candidate will support and promote our client’s objective of complete coverage of buy-side clients, with dynamic ideas and efficient trade execution. The ideal candidate will be a thought-leader, a builder, and continue to innovate and perpetuate a cerebral culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • to develop and maintain relationships with, and service to, existing buy-side portfolio managers/accounts
  • to interface with our clients' research team in order to maximize market share and commissions, and to provide the equity research team with market feedback in order to improve the relevance and quality of the research product
  • to both build and cover client accounts
  • to leverage research products and increase visibility of the equity research team through analyst marketing
  • to organize client events and corporate roadshows
  • to serve as an inspiring leader to peers on the sales and trading desk
  • to coach and mentor direct reports
  • to set sales strategy and sales goals consistent with the firm’s objectives; and,
  • to consistently measure and report performance against established targets


  • A minimum of ten years of experience in Institutional Equity Sales 
  • Strong relationships with portfolio managers and buy-side analysts
  • A minimum of three years of experience leading and mentoring a team of at least five sales professionals - or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a master’s degree would be considered an asset
