Description

Our client, an independent and entrepreneurial, wealth management firm based in Vancouver, is looking to add a Desk Analyst to their team. Their clients consist of high net worth individuals, select institutional investors, family offices and foundations.

While under the direction of the Portfolio Managers and CFO, the Desk Analyst will provide support in making the best investment decisions. The role may find one day is dominated by trade related projects, and the next is dedicated to researching current or potential portfolio holdings. The Desk Analyst will have the support and guidance of peers as the role will research investment ideas, meet with management teams and continually develop investment acumen.

Responsibilities

  • Existing Investments - monitoring performance, summarizing news releases, challenging

thesis vs our philosophy.

  • Potential Investments - researching new ideas, meeting management teams, communicating with networks to build case for investment if it meets our criteria.
  • Trade execution under direction of Portfolio Manager- buy/sell to the preferred weighting, selecting and coordinating with the preferred broker for best execution, following the trade as necessary, allocating bulk trades. For single account redemptions/contributions and general account management bringing portfolios in line with the preferred market weights.
  • Hedging - reviewing, rebalance forward currency hedges bi-weekly or as needed
  • Due Diligence requests - maintaining, updating data and responding to recurring and ad hoc due diligence requests under advisement of PM/CCO
  • Mandate Compliance - ensuring accounts are onside with mandate thresholds
  • Preparing Client Presentations in Powerpoint- gathering data, creating and maintaining graphs, charts etc and ensuring data integrity, stylistic improvements, eye for detail etc.
  • Quarterly/ad hoc client communications- data and graphic support as requested by PMs
  • Index Analysis- comparing performance to index, breakdowns by sector, small cap/large cap etc.
  • Monitoring insider status, communicate with legal representation and complete all regulatory filings with provincial securities commissions

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree
  • 3-5 years of trading or analyst experience in Canada (buy or sell side)
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Confidence using command of Bloomberg, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Experience researching index funds an asset but not a requirement
  • As we are a small team, a compatibility with your peers will be a top qualification
