Strategic Partnerships and Business Development Manager

The Financial Modeling Institute (FMI) is seeking a top globally-minded business development performer to join its rapidly-growing team based in Toronto, Ontario. Working with the Director of Operations and Program Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for raising awareness of the FMI Certification Program, growing registration numbers in exam cities, and building strategic partnerships in the financial community. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a small and dynamic team whose work has a major impact on the overall organization. The successful individual will communicate the value of the FMI to the finance industry and position its certifications as credible, rigorous, and desirable. This role will also focus on fostering existing candidate/partner relationships and creating new relationships from both warm introductions and new target prospects. Due to the growth of the FMI, there is future potential for this role to manage a team of Business Development and Relationship Managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow FMI’s strategic relationships with partners and customers
  • Undertake strategic marketing and sales initiatives that educate potential candidates and increase brand awareness
  • Drive registration volumes for public exams in existing cities and target new locations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with major global finance institutions such as major accounting firms, leading investment banks, and global financial institutions. Work with these firms and organizations to help them:
  • Trial the certification process
  • Understand opportunities to incorporate FMI certification levels into their career development programs
  • Leverage the FMI Private Exam program
  • Use the FMI Certification Program to assist in their recruitment processes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new partners in the Approved Training Provider (ATP) Program. Work with these partners to help them:
  • Understand the FMI Certification Program
  • Encourage certification for their employees
  • Promote and deliver FMI training and preparation classes
  • Communicate the benefits of the FMI to their potential customers
  • Leverage FMI Wholesale Pricing offers
  • Build awareness of the FMI Private Exam program with relevant organizations, institutions, and universities
  • Manage FMI’s Job Postings program by maintaining employer relationships and job postings webpage


Qualifications and Skills


  • 4+ years experience in the finance industry
  • University business/finance degree(s)
  • Strong business development and sales skills with an emphasis on relationship management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an understanding of B2B marketing and communication
  • Hard-working, enthusiastic, and committed attitude with the ability to function as part of a team while autonomously achieving individual goals and results


  • Completion of an advanced financial services designation such as CFA, CA, CPA or PMP
  • Experience managing and coaching teams
